From the President
People
sometimes ask me, How did The Portsmouth Arts Guild get to be so
terrific? What's the secret? Well, a vibrant arts organization like
ours doesn't run itself. The secret ingredient behind the Guild's
success is our dedicated cadre of volunteers. So far this
year we have more than 50 volunteers whose efforts make possible our
exhibitions, classes and workshops, member programs and performances.
These are members just like you-busy people with families to care for,
jobs to do, other worthy organizations to help. Still, they have found
the time and energy to devote to our Arts Guild. So, with an abundance of gratitude and deep apologies to any whom I have overlooked, here they are: Exhibitions, including show intake, hanging, receptions and entertainment:
Jonathan Small, Anne Winthrop Cordin, Don Heymann, Janet Dassau, Jane
Renwick, John Forasté, Maria Martineau, Mary Ann Martin, Norm Petersen,
Libby Gilpatric, John and Sandra Tolley, Claire Tremblay, Toni Gruber,
Hildi Rezendes. Publicity, in all its various forms-media, web, newsletter, postcards and brochures:
Jessica Wheeler, Jackie Griswold, Karen Talbot, Kathy Parker, Barbara
Ney, Toni Petersen, Lenny Rumpler, Bob Burch, Betsy Dees, Rita Honnen,
Kathy Morton, Jay Egge. Gallery volunteers:
Carole Barboza, Robert Burch, Linda Lee Butler, Celeste Chute-Wright,
Betsy Dees, Sandra Dingee, Nanette Dunn, JP Fernandes. Carol Gates,
Tanya Trinkaus Glass, Monty Gomez, Jackie Griswold, Richard Grosvenor,
Toni Gruber, Rita Heymann, Anne Hitchen, Sheila Lundy, Mary Ann Martin,
Maria Martineau, Susan Paradise-Burke, Toni Petersen, Jane Renwick, Hildi Rezendes, Val Rousseau, Lenny Rumpler, Jonathan Small, John Tolley, Ron Wenzel, Jessica Wheeler. Member programs and events: Lois Erhartic, Felicia Touhey, Val Rousseau , Carol Lynn Hall. Classes and workshops: Suzanne Lewis, Ellen Blomgren, Jay Egge, Lois Erhartic, Carol Lynn Hall, Mary Lou Smith. Performing Arts: JP Fernandes, Janet Dassau, Carol Gates, Cindy Killavey, Karen Nash, Tom Perrotti, Linda Remington. Membership: Phyllis Adams, Nicholas Stephens. Board of Directors:
Allayne Boruch, Anne Winthrop Cordin, Wendy Crooks, Lois Erhartic, JP
Fernandes, George Furbish, Mary Ann Martin, Mike Mendell, Michael
Miller, Mark Nickel, Linda Remington, Kathy Parker, Felicia Touhey, and
yours truly. Gardening and landscaping: Sandra Dingée, Nicholas Stephens, Linda Remington. I
know I must be forgetting a few, so if you have volunteered for the
Guild this year and I omitted your name, please let me know; I'd like
to add you to this important, and growing, roster of VIPs. And
guess what-we need MORE! In particular, we need two to three volunteers
to help with Membership. We need volunteers interested in helping with
Performing Arts. We need additional gallery volunteers for August
through December. And we need someone (or two) to help with our
finances and accounting, as our current treasurer has to leave the
position at the end of this year. Please consider donating your time to help our community thrive. If
you can help in any of the above categories, or know someone who might
be interested in the accounting side of the Arts Guild, please let me
know. Don't forget: Coming right up on June 7th (3-6 pm) and 8th
(6:30-8:30 pm) is entry for the "I Got Rhythm" show, juried by William
Varieka of William Varieka Fine Arts in Newport. Open to all media;
cash prizes for winners! Opening Reception is Friday, June 11, 6-8 pm.
Thanks, and...
See you in the gallery!
